TriWest Pledges Memorial Funds

PHOENIX - TriWest Healthcare Alliance, serving America's military families in Hawai'i and with operations in Nevada, committed $500,000 in initial support and an additional $500,000 in matching funds to help restore the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor as part of a five-year restoration commitment to honor those who lost their lives in the Dec. 7, 1941 attack.

"The USS Arizona Memorial is part of the heritage of Hawaii and our nation," said Governor Lingle. "This generous contribution will help in the effort to preserve this historic monument and to honor those who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor."

"The USS Arizona Memorial reminds thousands of people every day of the sacrifices our men and women in uniform make defending our freedom, not only at Pearl Harbor, but also today in Iraq and Afghanistan," McIntyre said. "In that sense, this is a living memorial and we at TriWest are proud to make this contribution."

The battleship sank in the attack on Pearl Harbor, which spurred the United States into World War II. It has remained a watery grave for more than 1,100 sailors. The memorial stands over the ship and attracts 5,000 visitors a day.

TriWest provides access to the military's health care program, TRICARE, considered the best in America by its beneficiaries, in Arizona, Hawai'i and in 19 other western states.

TriWest Healthcare Alliance is a Phoenix-based corporation that partners with the Department of Defense to provide access to cost-effective, high-quality health care for 2.7 million members of America's military family in the 21-state TRICARE West Region, which is comprised of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming and western Texas.
