Governor's Points of Light Award Nominations

FALLON, Nev. - The Nevada Commission for National and Community Service, Inc. (NCNCS) announced that nominations for the annual Governor's Points of Light Award will be accepted through July 25, 2005.

The Governor's Points of Light Award recognizes individuals and organizations for their dedication, commitment, and determination in promoting and supporting volunteerism throughout the state. The award is the state of Nevada's highest award given for service to the community by Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn and is administered by NCNCS.

In addition to receiving recognition from Governor Guinn and the state of Nevada, NCNCS honors each recipient with a $500 donation to the charity of their choice along with two other finalists receiving a $250 donation to the charity of their choice. The finalists and recipients will be honored at an awards dinner held on October 20, 2005 in Reno.

Nominations in five categories - Individual, North; Individual, South; Individual, Rural; Non-Profit Agency/Service Organization; or Corporation/Business - may be made by completing and submitting the 2005 Governor's Points of Light Award application. Applications are available for download from the NCNCS web site, may be submitted on-line, or a hard-copy may be requested by calling the NCNCS office in Fallon at 888-338-9759.

Any individual, organization, group, or business actively engaged in voluntary service within Nevada may be nominated.
