Nevada Power Employees Volunteer

LAS VEGAS - Last Saturday, May 14, twenty-one female Nevada Power employee volunteers joined a group of girls from disadvantaged or single-parent households at the local Boys & Girls Club for Girls' Day 2005, a fundraising event for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas.

Girls' Day matched girls between the ages of 7 and 12 with women from the community for an afternoon of fun, games, food and prizes. Not only did the young people have a good time, they also had the opportunity to begin a friendship with another adult who can encourage and develop their sense of competence, usefulness and belonging.

This event benefits adult volunteers as well as the girls. "I enjoy participating in this event each year," said Karen Johnson, team lead, Mail Services. " You walk away knowing that you touched the life of a young girl and really made a difference."

The goal of the Boys & Girls Clubs is to provide every child with the tools they need for a bright and successful future. Boys & Girls Clubs strive to improve each child's life by instilling self-esteem, courage, and positive values through their programs.
