The five-race series is open to all registered high school students and will be contested May 13, June 10, July 15, Aug. 12, and Sept. 16. Each race winner will receive $100, a trophy, a winner's decal and an LVMS hat. Each racer's four best finishes will count toward the points championship.
''We are introducing our new high school program as the next step for participants in our Midnight Mayhem and Jr. Drag Racing League in their advancement in the sport," said Chris Blair, LVMS' senior director of drag racing operations. ''The LVMS high school program will allow the NHRA Jr. Dragster participants to move up to a full-size car and also will afford Midnight Mayhem racers an opportunity to advance from street-legal drags to the competition structure of sportsman drag racing.
''The addition of this program illustrates The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway's continuous commitment to the youth of Las Vegas and southern Nevada.''
All participants under 18 years of age must have a completed parental consent form on file with LVMS. Forms are available at the front desk, Monday - Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
