Ameristar Supports Independent Living Program

LAS VEGAS - Ameristar Casinos, Inc. donated $172,469 to Nevada Community Enrichment Program's (NCEP) Independent Living Program. It is the largest contribution the organization has ever received, equaling one-third of its annual budget for all client services.

The donation is funded through the Ameristar Cares Workplace Giving Campaign. Contributions of $40,823 from the 150-member Ameristar Corporate office staff were matched dollar-for-dollar by Ameristar Casinos, Inc. and the private foundation of Ameristar Chairman and CEO Craig H. Neilsen. An additional contribution from the Neilsen Foundation increased the total donation to $172,469.

''This generous donation is something of which all Ameristar Team Members can be very proud and it demonstrates to the community how much we truly care and want to give back to help others,” said Craig H. Neilsen, Chairman and CEO of Ameristar. ''I have a deep personal commitment – and it is the mission of my foundation – to support organizations like NCEP’s Independent Living Program as they provide comprehensive and innovative programs that make a profound difference in peoples’ lives.''

The company’s Workplace Giving Campaign raised nearly $1.6 million for 30 different charities through six different campaigns in the markets we serve, in addition to Las Vegas.

''Children and adults living with a disability such as a spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, birth defect or neurological disease will benefit from these funds. They will be able to live a more independent life.,'' said Reggie Bennett, the Independent Living Coordinator.

Ameristar Casinos has a long-standing history of commitment to communities in which they live and work. Their Ameristar Cares charitable giving program encompasses direct financial donations, workplace giving, and Team Member volunteerism. The company made donations of nearly $1.2 million to more than 1,000 charities in our communities through Ameristar Cares last year.

Their focus is on education with an emphasis on adult literacy, social service agencies with a special concentration on assisting seniors, health-related non-profit organizations that assist the sick, career and economic development, and research and support for responsible gaming. Last year, the company contributed an additional $5 million to many local and state social service programs.
